The UB G.I.F.T.S. stands for the University of Baguio Giving Inspiration, Fellowship, and True Service. This event aimed to inspire the community, particularly students and barangay officials, to become advocates in realizing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as No Poverty (SDG 1), Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (SDG 16), and fostering partnerships for the goals (SDG 17). By actively engaging UB stakeholders with community partners, UB G.I.F.T.S. created a meaningful platform for immersion, collaboration, and shared purpose.

On the first day of the event, spearheaded by the Office of Student Affairs, different schools of UB prepared exciting and interactive booths for the students to enjoy. The students and teachers from Gumatdang Integrated School, Adiwang Elementary School, Pinget Elementary School, Doña Nicasia Elementary School, Guisad Valley High School, and Pinsao Proper Day Care Center were warmly welcomed.

The program began enthusiastically when the UB president, Engr. Javier Bautista gave a cheerful welcoming remarks sharing that the university is a place of opportunity for them if they choose to study in the university.

This was followed by very entertaining performances by the UB Voices and UB Graces. Students were then allowed to roam around and enjoy the booths prepared by the different schools and organizations. The happy smiles of the kids, parents present, and teachers show that the preparation for the first day of the event is a success.

As meals were distributed, gift bags made for the students and teachers were given by the Coordinators of Outreach and Extension and the COESAC students.

On the second day of the event, special guests from the UB Management Team, members of the Visually-Impaired Positive and Productive Dreamers (VIPPD), and officials and functionaries of Barangay Pinsao Proper attended.

The program began with a warm welcoming remark by the Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Janice Kaylyn Lonogan, and an introduction on the essence of the UB GIFTS programs delivered by Dr. Donnavila Marie Panday, director of the Research Innovation Extension and Community Outreach (RIECO) office.

The program welcomed the dancers from UBBUK, followed by exciting and inclusive games hosted by Dr. Antonio Mangalia. The participants joined in and had fun as they played Rock-Paper-Scissors with an innovative twist and Pass The Message. The winners gladly received prizes.

As the program calms a talk by Engr. Julia Flores about Mitigating Waste and Conserving Water: Essential Steps for Environmental Sustainability settles in. Then a round table discussion for the functionaries of Barangay Pinsao Proper on the Seal of Good Local Governance was given by Mr. Jose Dela Cruz.

The most awaited moment came as gifts were given by the Alumni Batch ’67 to the VIPPD and the gift bags for the Barangay Pinsao Proper were given by the UB Management Team represented by the MPA.

The program ended as meals were enjoyed and once again was completed by the warm smiles from the guests. The UB G.I.F.T.S. program will continue to be a yearly event not only to thank the partnered schools and barangays by allowing UB to share the UBians’ skills, talents, and knowledge to them, but by also opening their hearts to welcome UB as part of their community.
