In a powerful display of unity and collaboration with Task Group – Baguio, comprised of PROCOR-RMFB 15 and the Philippine Military, the School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety (SCJPS) organized a symposium aimed at equipping criminology and forensic science students with the necessary tools to combat insurgency. The event, which took place on February 17, 2023, at the University of Baguio RCB Dome, served as a platform to educate students about Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) and encourage their active involvement in fostering peace and stability within the country.

The symposium witnessed an impressive gathering of aspiring criminologists and forensic scientists who were eager to learn more about the role they can play in addressing the challenges posed by insurgency. The event’s primary objective was to familiarize students with ELCAC, a comprehensive government program aimed at ending insurgency at the local level by addressing its root causes and engaging various stakeholders in sustainable development.

Through a series of informative presentations, engaging discussions, and expert-led workshops, the symposium provided an opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of ELCAC and its significance in the fight against insurgency. Prominent guest speakers, including representatives from Task Group – Baguio, shared invaluable insights, real-life experiences, and strategies to counter insurgency effectively.

The symposium highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government and young citizens in eradicating insurgency. By equipping the future generation with the knowledge and understanding of ELCAC, the event aimed to inspire students to actively contribute to national development and security. It emphasized the invaluable role that criminologists and forensic scientists can play in gathering intelligence, analyzing data, and providing expert insights to aid in the resolution of insurgency-related cases.

Furthermore, the symposium fostered a sense of patriotism and duty among the participants, highlighting the significance of active citizenship and the responsibility of young people to work hand-in-hand with the government to counter insurgency. Students were encouraged to utilize their education, skills, and passion in becoming advocates for peace, advocates who are capable of making a tangible difference in their communities.

The symposium aims to foster peace, justice, and strong institutions through partnerships with local law enforcement officers and the provision of quality education to SCJPS students who will become future professionals in the fields of criminology and forensic sciences. Through such activities, the university hopes to continue making a positive impact on the community by nurturing its students and gearing them towards academic and professional excellence.
