The University of Baguio School of Criminal Justice System, in collaboration with the Philippine Life Saving Society-Cordillera Administrative Region, recently concluded a comprehensive First Aid and Water Safety Training on November 20, 22, and 24, 2024. This initiative aimed to equip the next generation of criminal justice professionals with vital life-saving skills.

The training, led by the esteemed Sir Laurence S. Daguio, Vice President of the Northern Luzon Chapter of the Philippine Life Saving Society, delved into a wide range of critical topics. Participants were immersed in water safety techniques, including survival swimming, safe entry and exit from water bodies, and the identification of drowning victims. Additionally, the training covered essential rescue methods, such as non-contact and contact rescue, as well as proper towing techniques for moving victims to safety.

Beyond water safety, the training emphasized the importance of first aid knowledge. Participants learned essential first-aid procedures, effective bandaging techniques, the proper use of spinal boards, and safe transportation of injured victims. These skills are invaluable in various emergency situations, both in and out of water.

The University of Baguio School of Criminal Justice System, under the leadership of Dean Charesma Grace Kilip Lud-ayen, along with the dedicated efforts of Sir Norman Biagcong Bustillo, Ma’am Cora Dogui-is, and the entire faculty and staff, played a pivotal role in organizing this transformative training. By incorporating this practical course into the curriculum of the Bachelor of Criminology and Bachelor of Forensic Science programs, the university demonstrates its commitment to holistic education and the well-being of its students.

This First Aid and Water Safety Training empowers students to become responsible citizens who can make a positive impact on their communities. By equipping them with life-saving skills, the university is not only preparing them for professional careers but also fostering a sense of civic duty and compassion.
