The University of Baguio (UB) once again showcased their prowess in the field of robotics and automation, racing with other schools in the 2024 Regional Robolution held at the university’s FGB Hall from October 9 to 11.
The competition, themed “Cognitive Creations: Where AI Meets Innovation,” featured a variety of challenges testing participants’ skills in robotics design, programming, and problem-solving. UB teams excelled in the said categories, securing First Runner up in the overall championship.UB’s Team LCJ Roboranger composed of Ron Leo Manangan, Christian Russel Castelltort, and Raphael James Carulla emerged victorious in the ERobot V2 category, a challenging race for line-following robots. The same team clinched the championship in the Basic ERobot V1 category. University of Baguio’s Team GG Pri (Genesis Velasco, Germaine Liezel Bunoan, and Princess Felix) also finished as the Second Runner-Up in ERobot V2. In the E-MegaSumobot competition (autonomous robots battle in a sumo ring) the pride of UB – the Team Gaano composed of Dan Jesril Gaano, Zian Kyle Acab, and John Randolf Marcos, and the Team Technologic composed of Dexter Sagun, Russel Siloy, and Ryan Medoza secured the First and Second Runner-Up respectively.
Meanwhile, Team Tech No Logic of UB proved their knowledge and skills by bagging the First Runner-Up of the E-Robo Quiz Bee. UB’s LCJ Roborangers places First Runner-Up in the Erovouthon challenge, which required teams to build functional robots within a limited timeframe. UB emerged as champion in the Mobile Controlled E-Robot through Team Mayonnaise, composed of Raian Geronimo Garcia, Geosemay Osalbo, and Arden James Villaruel. The said teams will be preparing for the nationals in December at the University of Makati.
Co-organizing and hosting the event at the University of Baguio reflects its commitment to SDG 4 – Quality Education and SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. UB actively fosters inclusive learning and cultivates creativity by providing hands-on experiences with emerging technologies. Events like Robolution highlight the university’s dedication to empowering students, unlocking their potential, and equipping them to address real-world challenges through sustainable solutions.
The event was organized by ERovoutika Electronics Robotics Automation, and University of Baguio – School of Information Technology headed by Engr. Julius Caesar Monico. The event kicked off with an orientation, training, and preparation in day one. Day two was officially opened with the welcome remarks of Dean Ellen M. Halover of the School of Information Technology. The event successfully concluded with the awarding of trophies,medals, certificates, gift items and cash prizes to the victors. The event was not possible without the hosts and sponsorship of Philippine Manufacturing Co. of Murata, Inc., Technology Application and Promotion Institute, and Power Mac Center.
