In place of the traditional year-end celebration, the University of Baguio Laboratory Elementary School (UBLES) concluded the academic year with a purposeful and community-centered initiative through its Year-End Academic Pause (YEAP) 2026, held on April 20 at the UBLES Quadrangle. The event brought together students, parents, teachers, staff, and alumni in a shared expression of generosity, compassion, and collective responsibility.

Guided by the spirit of giving, members of the UBLES community donated gently used items such as shoes, toys, coloring and drawing materials, clothes, and bags. These contributions were thoughtfully redistributed among members of the school community, while selected items were extended to families in the school’s adopted barangay, Salud Mitra—broadening the reach of kindness beyond the campus.
More than a simple act of donation, YEAP 2026 fostered values of empathy, gratitude, and social awareness among learners. It became a meaningful opportunity for students to understand the importance of sharing resources and supporting others, especially those in need.
This initiative strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by addressing multiple areas of sustainable development. It contributes to No Poverty (SDG 1) by providing useful resources to families, helping ease everyday challenges. It promotes Quality Education (SDG 4) by nurturing values formation and encouraging learners to become socially responsible individuals beyond academic learning.

Furthermore, YEAP 2026 advances Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10) by ensuring that donated items are shared inclusively within and beyond the school community. It also supports Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11) by strengthening the culture of bayanihan and community engagement. Through the practice of reusing and redistributing items, the initiative promotes Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), encouraging mindful use of resources and reducing waste. Finally, the collaboration among students, parents, teachers, and alumni reflects Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17), highlighting the power of collective action in creating meaningful impact.
As the school year came to a close, YEAP 2026 stood as a powerful reminder that education goes beyond the classroom. When a community unites with a shared purpose, even the simplest acts of kindness can create lasting change. UBLES extends its heartfelt gratitude to all who generously contributed—parents, teachers, students, and alumni—whose willingness to share made this initiative truly meaningful and successful.
