UBLES Alumni Homecoming 2025-2026: Once a Learner, Forever Connected

By: Diana Lyn G. Tamayo, Alumni Coordinator

On April 23, 2026, the University of Baguio Laboratory Elementary School (UBLES) came alive with stories, laughter, and renewed connections as it welcomed 65 alumni from different batches23 teachers and staff, and the UBAFI President for its much-anticipated Alumni Homecoming. Anchored on the theme “Once a Learner, Forever Connected: Engaging, Giving, and Growing Together,” the gathering was more than a reunion—it was a heartfelt celebration of identity, gratitude, and shared purpose.

From the opening prayer to the singing of the national anthem and the UB Loyalty Hymn, the program set a reflective and meaningful tone. As familiar faces reappeared and memories resurfaced, the atmosphere quickly turned warm and personal, reminding everyone that while years may pass, the spirit of UBLES remains constant in the lives of its learners.

In the welcome message of Dr Julius Gat-eb, UBLES Principal, he highlighted a truth deeply felt by everyone in the room: that being a UBLES learner does not end at graduation. It evolves into a lifelong connection one that calls each alumnus to remain engaged, to give back, and to grow alongside the institution that helped shape them.

The presentation of UBAFI programs opened doors for renewed involvement, inviting alumni to take an active role in supporting school initiatives, mentoring learners, and participating in outreach efforts. A motivational talk from a fellow alumnus resonated strongly, as personal experiences reflected the enduring values of discipline, resilience, and compassion nurtured during their formative years at UBLES.

Moments of socialization and group games brought energy and joy to the event, breaking down barriers between batches and rekindling friendships. Laughter filled the space as alumni and teachers interacted freely, strengthening bonds and creating new memories. These shared experiences fostered not only connection but also a sense of belonging an essential foundation for a supportive and inclusive community.

Recognition of alumni contributions through certificates and tokens of appreciation added a meaningful highlight to the program. More than the awards themselves, it was the spirit of gratitude and acknowledgment that made the moment special. Alumni testimonials further deepened the experience, as stories of growth, challenges, and success revealed how UBLES continues to influence lives far beyond the classroom.

Beyond celebration, the Alumni Homecoming served a greater purpose aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The event actively supported Quality Education (SDG 4) by reinforcing lifelong learning and encouraging alumni to share knowledge and experiences with the younger generation. It strengthened Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17) by bringing together alumni, educators, and stakeholders in a shared commitment to school development and community engagement.

The gathering also contributed to Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11) by nurturing a strong, connected, and value-driven community rooted in mutual support and shared identity. Through meaningful interaction and inclusive participation, the event upheld Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), ensuring that all alumni, regardless of batch or background, had a voice and a place in the celebration. Additionally, the joy and camaraderie experienced throughout the program promoted Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), highlighting the importance of social connection in fostering emotional wellness.

As the event drew to a close, one message became clear: UBLES is not just a place of learning it is a lifelong home. The connections rekindled, the commitments renewed, and the memories shared all point toward a future where alumni continue to play an active role in shaping the next generation.

Indeed, at UBLES, one is not simply a former student. One is, and will always be, forever connected.
