On July 13, 2024, a Medical-Surgical Mission was conducted at Pinsao Elementary School, organized by Pinsao Pilot Project Barangay in partnership with the University of Baguio School of Nursing, Pines City Colleges Nursing Department, BGHMC Department of Surgery, Philippine Red Cross, and Barangay Health Workers together with the barangay workforce -the council. This initiative, prompted by an invitation from the barangay, aimed to deliver crucial healthcare services to the local community. The mission saw participation from nursing students of UB, UC, PCC, staff from BGHMC, and the barangay workforce, with an overall total of participants of 160.

The University of Baguio School of Nursing played a pivotal role in a recent surgical mission conducted in Pinsao Pilot Project Barangay on July 13, 2024. This mission, a collaborative effort involving various institutions, aimed to provide essential healthcare services to the local community. The university’s participation was marked by the involvement of students, faculty members, and the dean, who were integral in conducting circumcisions for school children and young adults. This initiative was not only crucial in addressing immediate healthcare needs but also in ensuring the overall well-being of the youth in the barangay.

The objectives of this activity were threefold: to provide essential healthcare services, to foster community collaboration, and to extend the university’s outreach by strengthening partnerships within the community. By actively engaging in this mission, the University of Baguio School of Nursing demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility and community engagement. The involvement of students and faculty in such a significant event highlights the university’s dedication to nurturing a sense of unity and collaboration within the community, while also reinforcing its ties with other organizations and the people of Baguio.

This surgical mission also contributed to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). By offering medical check-ups, vital signs monitoring, and health teachings, the university not only provided immediate healthcare services but also promoted long-term health awareness and education within the barangay. The collaborative nature of the event, which included the participation of multiple institutions such as Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC), further strengthened partnerships and highlighted the importance of collective efforts in achieving broader social and health-related goals.
