A showcase of culinary excellence and community spirit marked the Regional Haven for Women and Girls (RHWG) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development–Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD-CAR)’s 2025 Nutrition Month celebration, as Mr. Melvin Aglolo, an alumnus of the University of Baguio–School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (UB-SIHTM), led a hands-on ‘Fruit and Vegetable Carving Activity’ on July 22 at the RHWG Multi-Purpose Hall. Supporting him in this initiative was Mr. Fernando Bagay, UB-SIHTM faculty member, who provided key assistance throughout the program.
The activity offered participants an opportunity to develop creativity and fine motor skills through fruit and vegetable carving, while also encouraging artistic expression as part of their personal growth. This interactive session promoted skill development and engagement, aligning well with the spirit of the Nutrition Month celebration.

In addition, Mr. Aglolo’s expertise, complemented by Mr. Bagay’s assistance, created an engaging and supportive environment, inspiring participants to explore new ways of presenting art in food preparation. Their collaborative approach encouraged hands-on participation and personalized guidance, allowing residents to build confidence and express creativity through the activity. This effort not only enhanced the participants’ skills but also highlighted the value of incorporating innovative, skill-based learning in community outreach programs.
Also supporting the outreach were Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management students with a specialization in International Hospitality and Business Operations (BSHM-IHBO), Adrean Dawa and Maria Isabel Caretativo, who assisted in guiding participants—thereby further strengthening the collaboration between the University of Baguio and community initiatives.

The Regional Haven for Women and Girls (RHWG) of DSWD-CAR serves as a temporary shelter for women and girls who are victims of abuse, exploitation, and trafficking. The facility offers a comprehensive range of services designed to address residents’ social, health, psychological, and economic needs as part of a holistic rehabilitation and empowerment process during their stay.
