The University of Baguio (UB) recently facilitated a three-day seminar-workshop on Basic CISCO Router and Switch Configuration, catering to 116 third-year BSIT students from Isabela State University – San Mateo Campus. Held on November 23, 24, and December 7, 2024, at the Cisco Networking Laboratory of UB, the training marked the second collaboration between UB and ISU. The first training session for ISU students took place earlier this year on January 18 and 19, 2024, establishing a strong foundation for continued partnership and skill-building in networking.
The sessions were conducted by Engr. Anthony Y. Galutan, an instructor from UB’s School of Information Technology with expertise in networking and pedagogy. To ensure that the students were thoroughly guided throughout the training, three faculty members from UB assisted Engr. Galutan during the sessions. Their support helped create an engaging and effective learning environment, allowing students to maximize the hands-on activities.

The workshop covered essential topics, including network setup, IP addressing, and routing protocols, offering participants valuable experience with industry-standard networking equipment. These interactive sessions aimed to build confidence and competence in foundational networking principles, preparing students for academic and professional success in the dynamic IT landscape.
This initiative underscores the University of Baguio’s commitment to fostering experiential learning and nurturing future-ready IT professionals. By integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application, UB reinforces its pivotal role in advancing technical education. Moreover, the program aligns with SDG 4: Quality Education, emphasizing the importance of accessible, high-quality learning opportunities.
As networking skills remain in high demand across industries, the seminar-workshop not only enhances the students’ career readiness but also contributes to the development of a skilled workforce. This initiative supports economic growth by equipping students with technical competencies vital for employment, advancing SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.

The seminar-workshop also highlighted the value of collaboration between UB and Isabela State University. By pooling resources and sharing expertise, the partnership demonstrated how inter-university initiatives can drive academic growth and foster stronger institutional ties. This collaborative effort aligns with SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals, showcasing the power of collective action in achieving shared educational objectives.
By hosting the training in its Cisco Networking Laboratory and leveraging the expertise of its faculty, the University of Baguio continues to champion innovative learning opportunities that prepare students to thrive in the global workforce while contributing to sustainable development goals.
