Other Posts

The University of Baguio’s School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety (SCJPS) went beyond the festive cheer this Christmas with their collaborative project with Pinget Elementary School’s “Project AYWAN” initiative that started in 2016, providing vital support and education to learners from Pinget Elementary School.

Recognizing the financial struggles many families face in the community, SCJPS has stepped up to ensure that education remains accessible for all children. Project AYWAN, a long-running initiative by the SCJPS, aims to provide holistic support to these learners, ensuring they have the resources and opportunities to succeed.

On December 9, 2024, Project AYWAN hosted a multifaceted event at the Pinget Elementary School grounds. The day began with a crucial seminar on violence against women, aimed at raising awareness and educating both children and adults on this pressing issue. The seminar provided valuable information on recognizing signs of abuse, seeking help, and promoting healthy relationships.

Following the seminar, the atmosphere shifted to celebration as SCJPS hosted a Christmas party for the beneficiaries. The event was fun and laughter, featuring engaging games, lively interactions, and heartfelt gift-giving by SCJPS personnel and CL SIKMA-SIKLAB 2024-01 interns. This festive gathering brought joy to the children and strengthened the bond between the university and the community.

UB SCJPS is committed to inclusivity and equal opportunities. Supporting Project AYWAN proves the University’s belief that education is a fundamental right, and we are dedicated to empowering these learners to reach their full potential.

Project AYWAN’s impact extends beyond immediate assistance. The project aims to improve academic performance, reduce dropout rates, and foster stronger community ties by providing educational support, resources, and mentorship. The initiative also seeks to empower parents and families, recognizing their crucial role in their children’s education aligning itself with SDGs 1: No Poverty, SDG 5: Gender Equality; SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities; SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong institutions; and SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals.

Through education, empowerment, and community engagement, Project AYWAN is making a lasting difference in the lives of those who need it most, embodying the true spirit of Christmas.
