Article prepared by the School of Nursing Staff

The School of Nursing (SON) continues to advance innovation in nursing education as 17 faculty members successfully completed the Extended Reality (XR) and Virtual Reality (VR) Onboarding Course in partnership with Crestmont Metropolitan University (CMU) Global on September 23–24, 2026.

The training strengthened faculty competencies in immersive technologies and digital pedagogy, equipping educators with the knowledge and skills to integrate XR/VR applications into nursing education. Through hands-on learning experiences and exposure to emerging educational technologies, participants explored innovative approaches to teaching, simulation, skills training, and learner engagement across classroom and clinical learning environments.

As the University of Baguio continues to pursue excellence in instruction, research, and innovation, initiatives such as the XR/VR Onboarding Course reinforce its commitment to developing competent, globally competitive, and future-ready healthcare professionals capable of thriving in an increasingly digital world.

Under the guidance of the CMY trainers, Edrainne Dela Cruz and Joanna Marie Alundan, a total of seventeen faculty members were able to expand their skills base during the session. These initiatives support the university’s pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal. No. 4: Quality Education by outfitting UB’s faculty with an upgraded knowledge base and set of skills that they can impart to their students, leading to more globally competitive and future-reader learners, and Goal No. 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as it facilitates collaboration between UB and leading industry institutions.
