Global Threats, Local Responses: UB Hosts Free Webinar on Borderless Terrorism

On July 7, 2024, the University of Baguio’s School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety hosted a critical and timely webinar titled “Terrorism Without Borders: Implications and Responses.” This event, part of U.B.’s Criminology Center of Excellence Project, was offered free of charge and attracted a diverse audience, including PNP officers, BJMP officers, and BFP officers from the Cordillera Administrative Region, as well as educators and students from both private HEIs and SUCs offering Criminal Justice Education Programs across the Philippines.

In today’s globalized world, terrorism has increasingly transcended national borders, presenting complex challenges that demand innovative and collaborative responses. The webinar addressed these pressing issues by equipping participants with the necessary knowledge and tools to counter these evolving threats effectively.

The keynote speaker, H.E. Amb. Dr. Maxwell A. Hagan, an International Eminent Peace Ambassador, Country Director for the Philippines, and International Coordinator for Asia and the Pacific, provided deep insights into terrorism’s multifaceted nature and global combat strategies. His expertise and international perspective offered invaluable guidance to those in attendance, emphasizing the importance of understanding terrorism’s transnational dimensions and the need for a unified, strategic response.

The webinar underscored U.B.’s commitment to advancing criminal justice and public safety knowledge, particularly in addressing contemporary security threats. By providing this platform, the University of Baguio continues to contribute to developing competent, well-informed professionals ready to tackle the challenges of global terrorism, reinforcing the institution’s role as a leader in criminology education and research.
