The Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) of the University of Baguio held its General Assembly at Centennial Hall to welcome and inform new and returning students about the organization’s goals and activities.
The assembly featured the announcement of new officers and their formal oath-taking ceremony, attended by both freshmen and continuing students. This milestone event symbolized the leaders’ commitment to serve with integrity and dedication, inspiring enthusiasm and renewed purpose among all members.
Following the oath-taking, the event’s main highlight, “Accounting Superstars Recognition,” celebrated the notable achievements of students from the past school year and showcased the University of Baguio’s distinguished awards. It also reviewed the accomplishments of the previous JPIA administration and unveiled the General Plan of Action (GPOA) of the current officers, aimed at sustaining the organization’s upward trajectory while maintaining the efficiency of proven programs.

The assembly also discussed new initiatives that were tied to a global framework of responsibility. The program highlighted the organization’s commitment to the principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including:
- SDG 4 (Quality Education) – ensuring that students have an active role in their academics through student-led initiatives helps to maintain accessible education that can cater to the evolving needs of the student body,
- SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) – training students early on in matters of leadership and active service ensures that they are well equipped with the necessary skills to navigate the professional world after graduation, and
- SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) – encouraging active community participation on a collegiate level fosters a sense of camaraderie that builds stronger collaborative ties among the students.
A special guest of the assembly, Mr. Mark Lester Zarate, Regional Chapter President of the National Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants for Region 1 and the Cordillera Administrative Region, together with the other regional officers, engaged accounting students with insightful topics. His discussion sparked curiosity among freshmen and motivated both new and returning students to persevere in their studies. Zarate also shared updates on JPIA’s ongoing initiatives, including the new federation name, Salindaya Federation, its butterfly logo, and the color purple; symbols representing growth, transformation, and cultural unity within the organization.
The General Assembly also featured Dr. Candido M. Perez, CPA— as the afternoon program’s inspirational speaker, where he emphasized the importance of staying focused, challenging ourselves and pursuing our goals with commitment and resiliency. “The summit is waiting for you, and— your name is on it.”
All speakers introduced an opportunity for everyone to showcase their knowledge, talent, and skills. The opportunity, in the form of both virtual and face-to-face events, is open to all accountancy students, emphasizing Sustainable Development Goal 10’s aim of reducing inequalities. The General Assembly highlights the possible conduct of seminars and webinars that tackle the information systems used in the accountancy profession and the application of AI, making full use of the ever-growing technologies in students’ lives and the accountancy profession. Such a plan supports SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
UBJPIA’s goals and commitment to developing skilled, ethical, and driven future accountants while fostering community and excellence within the University of Baguio were emphasized during the General Assembly and Accounting Superstars. The event set the tone for a year of excellence, growth, and a community for all aspiring accountants at the University of Baguio.
