Empowerment through Captaincy is fundamentally achieved through effective communication. A captain must clearly articulate their vision and objectives to their team, aligning everyone towards a common goal. By maintaining open and transparent lines of communication, a captain ensures that each team member feels heard and valued. This approach not only boosts morale but also fosters a sense of empowerment among the team, motivating them to work towards a shared vision.
The Research Innovation Extension and Community Outreach (RIECO) office has created an event for top management members at the University of Baguio, as leaders of a prominent institution, to share their skills and knowledge based on their fields of expertise. By doing so, empowering leaders to inspire and encourage others, driving their respective offices towards greater objectives.
The event was graced by the attendance of barangay officials from Pinsao Proper, deans, directors, and principals from different departments of the University. Their presence created an atmosphere of professionalism and had formed a bond between leaders as to how to lead their people in their respective offices.
The key takeaways from the event were the importance of being a visionary leader shared by the University President Engr. Javier Bautista, financial management discussed by Mr. Johann Ben Bautista the Vice President of Finance, good governance taught by Atty. Rommel Ayson the Vice President of Administration, and the effective 5’s in the workplace for management and practice spoken about by Dr. Janice Kaylyn Lonogan the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Attendees learned how to better listen to the concerns and needs of their people, and how to convey our vision and goals clearly and compellingly. This would help them build stronger relationships with the people they serve and has made them more responsive and motivated to create a positive difference.
The event was a resounding success, strengthening the partnership with barangay Pinsao Proper (SDG 16 & 17), passing knowledge based on their expertise (SDG 4), and having all leaders involved (SDG 5). The different heads of their respective committees in the barangay and departments of the University are confident of the skills and knowledge they’ve gained from the speakers to continue to serve their offices well as they work to build a better future for the school and their barangay.
