The University of Baguio played a crucial role in supporting the Liga ng mga Barangay of Bulusan Sorsogon Chapter’s recent Seminar and Benchmarking Activities by providing subject matter experts from its faculty. Atty. Timothy John D. Tabago and Atty. Ser G. Villanueva, esteemed professors from the University, served as distinguished speakers for the event, which was held in Baguio and Tagaytay City. The seminar, titled “Empowering Barangay Officials towards Effective Governance and Administration”, aimed to enhance barangay officials’ governance and administrative skills.

Hosted at the Tuscany Hotel on Abanao Street Extension in Barangay Rizal Park, Baguio City, the seminar featured insightful discussions on critical aspects of barangay local legislation. Topics included the drafting of ordinances and resolutions, parliamentary rules and procedures, and the ethical standards expected of public officials. This focus aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16, which advocates for peaceful and inclusive societies and effective, accountable institutions at all levels.

The event also included an interactive Q&A session, allowing participants to engage directly with the speakers and address any pressing issues. This interaction emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in governance, reinforcing SDG 16’s commitment to strengthening the rule of law and ensuring equal access to justice.

Moreover, the seminar demonstrated a commitment to SDG 17, which calls for revitalizing global partnerships for sustainable development. By fostering collaboration and sharing knowledge among barangay officials, the event contributed to building effective partnerships and enhancing institutional capacities necessary for achieving sustainable development goals at the local level.
