Students from the School of Business Administration and Accountancy (SBAA) showcased their innovative products and services at the SBAA Prototype Presentation event, held on October 17 and 18, 2024 on the third floor of Centennial Building. The event provided an avenue for students to apply their academic knowledge to create innovative products and services that tackle real-world problems and provide practical solutions.

More than 30 prototypes were presented by SBAA students, ranging from simple, small, yet helpful and thoughtful items, to medium-sized machines, to large machines. Among the notable prototypes created by the SBAA students are a weighing scale called “PIEZOELECTRIC,” that uses your weight to generate electricity and light up bulbs or charge your phones; a baby carrier called “BELLYEASE” that supports the mother’s back and has numerous compartments; a machine called “BLAZING WASTE” that shreds plastic bottles for easier recycling; a walking cane for the elderly with a small basket in front for items called “WALK n ROLL”; and an automatic clothes dryer rack called “DRYSHIELD PRO” that automatically closes on top to cover the clothes when it detects rain and automatically opens again to let the clothes dry after the rain has stopped. All of the prototypes were not only innovative, but also beneficial to society and consumers.

The event strengthened SBAA students’ entrepreneurial spirit. The participants presented, explained, and demonstrated their prototypes to their fellow SBAA students across all year levels with great enthusiasm. They engaged in discussions about the prototype’s purposes, costs, and potential pricing of their innovations. As students rated the prototypes, they exchanged opinions and made suggestions for improvement. SBAA professors also conducted inspections and assessments of the student prototypes.

Agatha Baniqued, a third-year marketing management student, shared her experience: “The Prototype Presentation event was super helpful. This event gave us the confidence to present our product, the DryShield Pro. Our product is pretty big and techy, so a lot of students were curious and interested, which made the experience even better. Since dinudumog ang product namin, it really helped us practice sales pitching, like explaining the product and answering questions on the spot. As a third-year Marketing student, this event let me practice an important skill, which is how to talk to potential buyers. It also gave us a chance to actually apply what we’ve been studying inside the classrooms. I am grateful for the opportunity to showcase the product we’ve been preparing. It was such a great experience to have this event where we could present our innovation and share our knowledge with other students.“
The SBAA Prototype Presentation, organized by the Junior Financial Executives, aligns with UN SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. Giving students a platform to display their own prototypes allowed them to cultivate entrepreneurship. This contributes to sustainable economic growth by preparing students for future work environments and increasing employment opportunities because they now have hands-on experience and product presentation skills.
